Pinterest is a social network as well as a search engine. It allows you to search through the platform for your desired needs such as recipes, fitness tips etc. Unlike Google, Pinterest is visual-dominant. Which means, the content you’ll find on Pinterest are all images. For example, a simple search for “Weight loss” brings me all these awesome articles: As you’ve probably noticed, these are all images but once you click on any of them, you can read the actual article. Users can search for stuff, read articles or even pin content to their created boards. Since Pinterest has a lot of content to explore, you might often get bombarded with interesting stuffs, be it vegan recipes, DIY tricks or fashion tips. However, reading them all at one go isn’t possible, so that’s when boards come handy. Boards are basically folders which you use to save pins (articles) to read later on. Pinterest is a rapidly growing platform. In fact, it has 291 million monthly active users and it’s only going up. In fact, there’s A LOT of money to be made on Pinterest. I can’t tell you how much. It might be $200, $500, $1,000 or more every month for you. Or even lesser. As I mentioned earlier, I do make over $1,500 every month with the help of Pinterest but that is actually really less as compared to some of the other people I know. For example, my friend Ana from TheSheApproach brings in over $50,000/month from her blog and a lot of it is with the help of Pinterest. It’s crazy but achievable at the same time. I believe the key to really making money from Pinterest is to be CONSISTENT. It is a long game and you have to stick to it. Just like any other social network, it takes time to build a following and a good overall ranking of your profile. If you’re someone who’s going to try for a week or two and say “This doesn’t work” then this is not for you. You have to put it in the work for months or even a year to finally start seeing results. Ana was able to achieve those income figures only after she put in the work for years. If she would have quit halfway then it wouldn’t have been possible. The reason I am telling you this is because making money on Pinterest takes time. It’s not overnight and there’s no push button for it. But if you keep trying consistently you’ll surely crack the code. Now, there are many different ways to make money on Pinterest but 6 of my favorite ones are listed below. How To Make Money On Pinterest: 6 Smart Ways 1. Start A Blog Just like the blog you’re reading now, you too can start one and make money from it. You can blog about any topic as long as you’re interested in it. It can be about: Fitness Cooking recipes Weight loss tips Fashion Beauty and makeup Parenting Or anything! You need to find the right balance between interest and profitability. What I mean is, the niche (topic) should be interesting to you and as well as profitable at the same time. There should be enough ways to monetize your blog and there should be a lot of demand for the topic. For example, niches like food and fitness are always in demand. But that doesn’t mean you need to start a blog on either food or fitness. Try and identify what you love doing and how you can help people over the internet with your writing. Keep in mind, the internet is huge and there is demand for almost everything. You do not have to go after the “MOST” profitable topic. I highly recommend reading my post on how to start a blog so you can get started right away. Now – there are 4 main steps to launching a blog: Setup Writing Monetize Traffic Setup The Setup part is all about building your blog. You start by purchasing your hosting and domain name, install WordPress, pick a theme and then design logos and stuff. I’ve talked about all of that in the article mentioned above. Writing The next step is writing, which is quite self-explanatory. You go on and write blog posts about your topic. Try to write at least 15 blog posts before you move on to the next step. Monetize There are a lot of ways to monetize or in simple words, make money with your blog. Some of them are: Ads Promoting products as an affiliate Selling your own products Doing sponsored posts Selling your services And others I mostly make money from promoting products as an affiliate, which means I promote other people’s products for a commission per sale. The products can be anything from eBooks to courses, t-shirts, caps or what not depending upon your niche. If your niche is “Beauty” you would want to promote products like makeup, cosmetics, lotions etc. Or if you’re in the travel niche, you can promote bags, travel packages, travel guides and so on. You get the idea. NOTE: Pinterest doesn’t pay you money directly. It’s the users you drive from it to your blog that decides to either make a purchase or interact with your ads. Traffic Traffic is hands down the most important step. Traffic basically means users who’re visiting your blog. To start making money from your blog, you’d need a decent amount of traffic. One of my favorite ways to drive traffic is via Pinterest. It is a great source of traffic for new as well as established blogs. The audience of this social platform is mostly women from the US, which is why topics like “Men’s fashion” will get less exposure as compared to topics like “Pregnancy”, “Parenting” or “Weight loss”. However, topics that aren’t focused on a gender like DIY, making money or blogging tips tend to do well too. In fact, my friend Ana consistently pulls in over 30,000 users a month to her blog and about 70% of it comes from Pinterest. (She blogs about “Blogging tips”) And because of that huge amount of traffic she receives, she’s able to make around $50,000/month from her blog. Pretty dope! Affiliate Links I understand not everyone wants to start a blog in order to make money on Pinterest and there’s a workaround for that. It’s called Affiliate Marketing. Remember I told you above that I make money from my blog by promoting products as an affiliate? That’s the same thing. Except, in this method, you won’t need a blog. You can directly promote affiliate products on Pinterest. Which means: No setting up your blog No content creation No rocket-science Though starting a blog is not really rocket-science but still is considered some work as compared to this method. So how does it work? Step #1: Setup your Pinterest account First of all, head over to Business.pinterest.com and sign up for a business account. A business account allows you to use the platform as a marketer and track the performance of your pins. If your main purpose of using Pinterest is to promote something, then you need a business account. After you’ve signed up, go ahead and fill in your name, bio, display picture and everything else that completes a profile. Now, be sure to pick a niche. If you just go on and promote every product that is available, you’ll lose your audience. You need to stick with one. It can be travelling, beauty, weight loss or anything you like. After you’ve finalized the niche, go ahead and create relevant boards. If you’ve chosen the “travelling” niche, you’d want to create boards like: Travelling tips Places to visit in [Country] Best travel destinations Things to do in [Country] You get the idea. Fill the boards with others’ pins until you start creating your own. I recommend stalking other profiles in your niche to get a better idea of how it’s done. Step #2: Join affiliate programs After you’re all set with the profile, it’s time to start joining affiliate programs/networks in your niche. A simple search on Google like “(niche) affiliate programs” will land you a complete list ready to be joined. Here are some of the programs I am part of: CJ Affiliate FlexOffers OfferJuice (Formerly known as iGain) ShareASale Clickbank JVzoo NOTE: Check with each of these programs before promoting their products. Some of them might not allow promotion on Pinterest. Step #3: Design your pins Once you’ve joined a handful of affiliate programs/networks, you’d need to create pins to promote those products. Probably the most fun part (At least for me!). If you’re promoting a detox tea product, you’d want to design an image that properly represents the topic. Look at these examples: An editing service such as Canva does the work pretty well. And yes, it’s free! Step #4: Pin pin pin Once you’re done designing a few pins for your affiliate products, you need to go ahead and start pinning those to your boards. There’s not much to say about this, but just make sure you don’t go on a spamming spree. Don’t pin everything all at once. And I am saying this for third-party pins as well. When you’re pinning on Pinterest, be it your pins or others’ pins, keep a nice amount of gap between each pinning session. You don’t want to pin 50 pins at one go. Take it slow. Now, you need to believe me when I say there’s a lot more to it than the above steps. I’ve just scratched the surface. In order to really get results from this method, you need to know the ins and outs of it. Pinterest is a strict platform, so sometimes if you make even a tiny mistake, you might get your account suspended (And that is not fun!). Sell Your Own Products Another great way to make money on Pinterest is to sell your own products on it. In the previous method you learned how to sell others’ products for a commission, but this method is all about selling your own. Which means, you get paid in full rather than a shared commission. The products can be either digital or physical. Here are some examples of products you can sell: Physical: T-shirts Mugs Caps Phone cases Digital eBooks Online courses Audiobooks Printables If in case you don’t want to deal with the hassle of creating your own physical products, you can check out websites like TeeSpring and CafePress that lets you print your own designs on stuff like t-shirts and mugs. They handle everything from manufacturing to shipping. All you have to do is promote it. 4. Become A Pinterest VA If you’re well versed with the Pinterest platform or at least interested in learning about it, you can make money by becoming a Pinterest virtual assistant. And Pinterest is one area which is in limelight. Since Pinterest is more than just a social network, it requires much more work and can get taxing sometimes for an individual. That’s probably the main reason the thought of hiring a VA comes up. As a Pinterest VA, you’d be responsible for handling tasks such as: Creating pins Writing titles and descriptions Posting pins manually or scheduling them Optimizing boards And others! Not everyone has an eye for great design and a lot of them actually HATE designing stuff. Though it’s not the case with me, but I know people who do not enjoy the process. And because of that, they either hire someone to design the pins or purchase pin templates. A pin template is an editable pin graphic that is already well designed and just needs to be filled with the text of their choice. So, how do you create those pin templates? There are a few options: Photoshop Canva PicMonkey All of these are photo editors, with Photoshop being an offline downloadable software, and the other two being online. Since I feel Canva is the easiest, I recommend starting with it. You can watch the tutorial below that shows you how to design pins: After you’ve designed the pin(s), follow the below steps to turn them into templates: Step 1: Click on the upper right button on the editor that says “Publish” or “Download” Step 2: Select the “Template” option from the menu Step 3: Choose the folder you want to save it to Step 4: Click on “Publish” You’re done! Now you can go to the folder and grab a link that can be shared with your buyers. NOTE: The ability to share pin templates with your buyers is only available on Canva Pro version. Now, I am sure you wouldn’t want to share the link with your buyers manually. That’d be too much work. Now you can go to the folder and grab a link that can be shared with your buyers. NOTE: The ability to share pin templates with your buyers is only available on Canva Pro version. Now, I am sure you wouldn’t want to share the link with your buyers manually. That’d be too much work.
